Aesthetics and functionality as the foundation of harmonious living

The overall winner of the ninth annual Interior of the Year 2023 awards was an exceptional renovation project titled “A New Identity for a House in Kutná Hora.” The architects are Jan Holub and Tomáš Hanus from the BYRÓ ARCHITEKTI studio. The results were announced on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the DOX Center for Contemporary Art in Prague.

The winner of the award for the ninth edition of ‘Interior of the Year’ is Kateřina Handlová, artistic director at Rückl Glassworks and in-house designer at Bomma Glassworks. She draws inspiration from fashion in her work and seeks to incorporate its elements into product design. She draws on subcultures and admires successful women – a group to which she herself now belongs.

In its ninth year, the Interior of the Year awards were expanded to include a ninth competition category entitled the FOREIGN MEDIA AWARD. The organiser, the Institute of Interior Design in Prague, has established close cooperation with a number of magazines from countries such as Italy, Sweden, Denmark and Spain.

Here it is—the prestigious Interior of the Year competition has opened registration for its ninth edition. Both private and public interiors designed by professionals and completed in 2023 are eligible to participate. Winners in each category can look forward to receiving an award, the design of which was entrusted to designer Kateřina Handlová for this year’s edition.

From among so many submitted interiors, the international jury of the prestigious Interior of the Year 2022 competition had to select winners in ten competition categories, as well as an overall winner. The overall winner was a Prague interior designed by architect Martina Šandová of TI ARCHITEKTI.

A hallmark of the prestigious “Interior of the Year” competition is that a different designer creates the award for the winners each year. This year’s award was designed by OTA SVOBODA, a designer at the Bomma glassworks.
